Therapeutic relaxation massage is a hands-on technique using various types of strokes applied to the body’s soft tissues in order to promote relaxation and healing. The strokes, including a combination of gentleness and strength, are able to meet head-on normal as well as problem soft tissue types.
Because the therapeutic massage I perform has a strong Swedish massage influence, my strokes include these:
- effleurage: long gliding strokes directed toward the heart
- petrissage: kneading movements
- friction: circular pressures
- vibration: shaking or vibrating strokes
- percussion: tapping motions
- passive and active movements: bending and stretching of various joints
Therapeutic relaxation massage is beneficial to many kinds of people, from many walks of life. This technique is useful for numerous and varied health issues. A large amount of the symptoms and discomforts associated with these health issues are the result of stress related tension.
